I Am So Proud! | Life

I am having a very proud mom kind of day!  My daughter has been taking swimming lessons over the last 3 weeks and we are in the last week.  She took this same class this summer and if you had been following me during that time, you saw how frustrating it was.  We had a lot of separation issues and for some reason instead of having fun in the pool she was screaming at me.  Needless to say they told us we needed to do the class again.  That’s when I decided that we would try a winter class and hope that there wouldn’t be as many kids and as much chaos as it was during the summer.  I am so glad I signed her up!

Today was just any other day, going to class and excited to go.  I was just watching as usual while browsing Facebook and Twitter on my phone.  They were doing their normal picking something up off the pool bottom to get their heads in the water as much as they will allow.  When I look up and see that she’s dipped her face in the water and then she looks at me to see if I was watching and how I would react.  Next thing I know she’s got her face in the water up to her eyes and I instantly broke out in a huge smile, thumbs up, and laughing.  It took all I could to not start jumping up and down in front of everyone.  That was huge!!  This girl is just like her mom, doesn’t like to put her head in the water.  I still don’t!  So for her to just give it a go with out her teacher asking her to was big!  I have been beaming all day about it.

So because I’m a proud mom I had to share this slideshow that shows the progression of her ‘Big Dip’.

Happy Birthday to My Baby | Life

Yesterday was my daughter’s 5th birthday!  It really is hard to believe that she is already 5 because it seems like she was just 2.  Time does get away from you when you have a child because things change so quickly, sometimes right before your eyes.  All of sudden she is no longer my baby and now she’s a big girl who we are preparing to go to kindergarten!  This week hasn’t been all that I was hoping though.  Mommy (me) has been sick with an ugly cold and sinus infection that will not go away.  I wanted yesterday to be a bit ‘bigger’ then what it ended up but in the end I do not think she cared.  She was happy and that made me happy!

We started the day with swimming lessons.

Then we took her out for lunch and where do you think she wanted to go?  Panera!  It was funny to us that that was her request.  After that we went to Build A Bear, a place I have never taken her in fear that it would start an obsession.  She at first couldn’t understand why all the toys were flat!  ‘What is wrong with these toys?’ she asked.  After lots of explaining then she got into it and chose a beautiful wolf, put her in a fancy red dress, and called her Sparky!

I was right, she’s obsessed!  Actually the obsession was already there, anytime she gets a new toy it’s a stuffed animal.

We then had a little birthday treat at home and I sang Happy Birthday to her!  These yummy cookies were her birthday snack at preschool.

And to finish she created a masterpiece with her new window markers that Great Aunt Starla gave to her over the weekend.  She loves these!

(mommy’s not sure yet, *wink)

Three | Floral Fine Art Photography

Fine art pink floral blooms by Brenda Landrum Photographer

I have returned to my fine art photography lately and of course my most beloved subject is flowers.  I started going through my past work with flowers and it was fun to see that no matter how many times I have photographed the same flower I seem to see it differently every time.  I think it has a lot to say with what is going on in my life and how I am evolving and changing as an artist and a person.  When I was taking the image above I knew that I wanted it to be light and airy by using white and keeping the aperture wide for softness, I had the technical side all figured out.  It was when I started looking at the image and what I had been thinking about the day I took it that it hit me the meaning behind this image for me.  That day is when my husband left for his business trip in Seattle and I had been thinking a lot about our family of 3 and how much I love the simplicity of that.  I get a lot of flack about how I do not want to have anymore children.  The one that I have is enough, I feel complete.  Complete at three.  That is what this image means for me.  Three.  Close.  Family.

My Girl With Her New Do

Here she is.  My Girl with a few less hairs on her head.  I first mentioned this **incident** last week Thursday.  She really didn’t do to bad of a job just a bit short in the one area.  I am not quite sure what she was thinking but if it was to get my attention she got it.  Last week was crazy around here and for those of you who follow my Twitter feed or are my Facebook friend you saw that pretty much the only thing on my mind was kindergarten and what school.  We had two school info nights, a lot of mixed feelings, and confusion.  Then the phone call came that we never thought would occur.  We won the school lottery!  Her name was magically drawn out of the lottery for the school we had at the top of our list.  This school is really hard to get into being there are hundreds and hundreds of names in the lottery but only a limited number of openings.  I still can not believe it and why I did not delete the voice mail they left.  I keep checking it to make sure.  This morning I went and sat in the kindergarten class and I am so happy that I did.  Seeing the teacher and her current class eased all my worries, for now, and I can not wait for her to start there in the fall.

Happy Birthday Sweet Girl | Longmont Child Photographer

Yesterday my niece turned the big ONE and today we get to celebrate with her and her family.  We are so excited to watch her eat her cake and open her gifts!  Being an aunt has been so much fun the first year of her life.  I love to spoil her and watch her play with my girl.  I wish they lived in the same town because then we could see her even more.
