The New MACRO | Photography

Today I finally received my new macro lens.  The Sigma 70mm 2.8 Macro.  The decision to buy a new macro lens was HUGE for me.  I tested several over and over and over again trying to decide what I wanted.  This shouldn’t of been so hard but I knew that the lens had to ‘perfect’ for me.  I read hundreds of reviews, watched several online video reviews, and researched until I turned blue.  Then 2 days ago I finally made my choice and ordered it.  For me the deciding factor was the 9 diaphragm blades the Sigma has.  You see the more blades the better the bokeh and when working that close to my subject that was important.  Plus I recently purchase the Sigma 24-70mm lens (which also has 9 blades) and I am in love with this lens.  Since I have put the 24-70mm on my camera it has not come off until today to put on the macro.

I know…some would think there would be no other qualifying lens besides Canon but I beg to differ.  I have tested Canon and I own a few Canon prime lenses and although they are great lenses as far as perfect for me they were not.  I will say though, the Canon 50mm 1.4 was perfect until it broke.  Yup…I just could not get a sharp image from that lens and therefore it is now in my lens graveyard.  So right now my lenses of choice are the Sigma 24-70mm and the Sigma 70mm Macro.

So far I am very happy with the Sigma 70mm Macro, I’ve only been playing with it for a few hours but so far it is looking great.  I can get crazy close to my subject and it’s been focusing very easily and locks on to my target great.  The focusing is a little bit louder but that is not a factor with this lens for me.  This lens has a very specific purpose for my photography.  Wedding ring shots…oh ya I can not wait to test that out this Saturday!  Little newborn parts like tiny toes, little curly hair, and bitty fingers.  Of course it’s main purpose will be for my floral work.  If you are on my Facebook Page then you have read that I have been photographing peonies this week and literally in love with them.

How about you?  Are you in love?  I am!
