Over Christmas I decided that I wanted to try out a new lens to see if I may like it. Actually I was fairly certain that I was going to love this lens but wanted to rent it first. This lens is an investment $$$$ so I wanted to make sure I was going to be happy before buying. I am so glad that I did! It is a wonderful lens and produces gorgeous images plus the bokeh is to die for with the L series of Canon lenses. Yes….there is a but. This lens is a beast!!! It is a huge lens and incredibly heavy. I was able to shoot with it just fine for short periods of time but trying to imagine myself holding a lens like this for over an hour during a session…no way. Plus running around after little kids and getting them to smile while holding this thing to my eye…nope. I knew instantly that this lens was not for me.

So why am I telling you this? Besides confessing that I’m a wimp and need to lift some weights. If you are considering buying a lens, especially when it is in this price range, I highly suggest renting it first. I have rented from a wonderful company called Borrowlenses.com and have never been disappointed with their service. Always fast, they remind you when you need to mail it back, you can ask for extensions, and they let me know that the rental returned to them safe and sound. The equipment is always clean and ready to be used which is wonderful! I have rented from them several times and each time has been so easy.
If I would of bought this lens without trying it I would of been very disappointed with my purchase. So my tip today is to check out Borrowlenses.com the next time you are thinking of buying a lens to try it out first!
