I have been going through my fine art landscape images in preparing a print for a donation and I came across this image of the Scottsbluff National Monument that I have always loved. Throughout my life (I grew up in the Scottsbluff, NE area) I have seen many images of the monument but they were always pretty dull to me. The only one that I can think of that stood out to me was one with lightening strikes all over and around it but still a common image in the landscape world. Well I think it is anyway. I have always wanted to do something different, something nobody has seen before. Now I do admit, not living there anymore I have not seen new images of this very commonly photographed landmark and maybe there is something like this around. I like to think that mine is unique!
This image was taken in 2007 and I was on my way back to Colorado with my then 2 yo daughter when I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this gorgeous scene. The sun was rising and there was a very dramatic sky. As I was trying to find a place to stop I found this field of corn that had not been harvested yet which made a great foreground for the image I was about to create.
I’m pretty proud of this image, like I said I believe it is unique to what is usually captured by the photographer’s in that area. I wanted to share it with you and I hope you like it as much as I do…..
